The 5G stand-alone network based on Open-RAN is expected to enable the exploration of future innovative applications that will be particularly exciting for SMEs.<br \/><br \/><\/p><p>As the world&#8217;s leading organisation for application-oriented research, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is concerned with key technologies of the future and thus naturally also with 5G! The institute Fraunhofer FIT sees it as its goal to help shape the human-centric design of our digital future with the development of practical 5G applications and their ecosystems for business and especially for SMEs. A tender was therefore issued to find a partner to procure and set up the basic 5G technology for an indoor network in the FIT building. Here, COCUS AG was able to score points with both pricing and technical execution and thus win the project for itself. Starting in 2Q22, the 5G &#8220;Accurate Positioning&#8221; feature will also be supported, enabling location-based services even indoors. For the local campus network, COCUS therefore plans to deploy 5 indoor antennas. In the future, the network can also be expanded to include outdoor antennas. In addition to strategic planning through to implementation and operation of the local 5G network, COCUS AG is also responsible for project management and quality assurance for the 5G Campus Birlinghoven.
