The “PORTABLE 5.0”<\/a> project led by the seaport of Wismar<\/a> is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport with 4.1 million euros until 2024 to test various 5G applications for German ports In the standalone 5G Campus network, which COCUS is providing together with Airspan, the seaport is testing various use cases. Among them, process optimization in real-time dispatching with resident companies, remote control of shiploaders and vehicles for timber transport from the port to timber manufacturers, latency testing for remote control, and remote operation of drones for remote maintenance and warehousing. Within the local network, the seaport can transmit video streams and telemetry data from vehicles and cranes on the site in real time. The seaport can also counteract current problems such as labor shortages by allowing many tasks that were previously performed manually to be managed remotely, resulting in greater cost efficiency and easier working conditions for on-site employees. With the recently expanded Erich Reinecke test site for commercial vehicles in Jeversen, ZF is taking on an important role in the testing and development of new solutions and technologies that are helping to shape the future of mobility. \nGiven the enormous data requirements for automated vehicle control and safety, traditional Wi-Fi service is not sufficient to support real-time communication and real-time analysis of collected telemetry data. To meet this challenge, ZF has decided to operate its own 5G campus network on the Jeversen test track. With the COCUS connectivity solution, seamless handovers and data transfers are enabled in real time, allowing ultra-fast data exchange to support direct evaluation of test runs and feedback to drivers on the latest results.
