Digital learning goes into the next round with the 5G Campus Network from COCUS

The next step in H-BRS’s ODEA.5G project has been taken. The next step in H-BRS’s ODEA.5G project is takenThe university is pushing ahead with the implementation of e-assessments and the teaching of the future with the commissioning of its own 5G private mobile network.

At the end of 2021, COCUS delivered the 5G infrastructure for the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and put it into operation at the Sankt Augustin campus. Since then, the further development of the solution and research work around the topic of e-assessments has been actively pursued. Because the university’s ODEA.5G project (Own Device E-Assessment on 5G) aims to develop a flexible & powerful infrastructure for conducting digital exams.

Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences as 5G pioneer

Increasing student numbers and the associated decentralization of learning spaces play a major role in the move away from the technologies used to date to effective and, above all, efficient new methods.

The use of previous technologies such as W-LAN and provided end devices (e.g. stationary PCs) is becoming increasingly costly and in some cases no longer feasible. The 5G mobile private network will be used to explore how diagnostic, formative, and summative e-assessments of any group size can be conducted in the future.

The university’s progress brings it a big step closer to its goal of introducing and offering digital exams on a large scale through the 5G mobile private network.

We are excited about the progress of the ODEA.5G project and look forward to our next steps together!

The project is funded by the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy of the State of NRW.
