5G Infrastructure for communication and localization in depot operations
The MRK Gewerbepark Torgau is an industrial and commercial location that offers companies sustainable development opportunities. As part of the IDEA project, a 5G infrastructure was set up that combines two central use cases. On the one hand, high-performance communication with semi-autonomous vehicles in the depot and, on the other, precise GNSS-independent positioning
Goals
- Establishment of a 5G-based infrastructure for localization and communication between automated vehicles and a depot management system (DMS)
- GNSS-independent real-time positioning of vehicles, especially in indoor areas
- Use of 5G data transmission for live transmission of vehicle data and video streams
- Ensuring seamless connectivity when transitioning between indoor and outdoor areas
- Secure, stable, and high-bandwidth data communication with vehicles
- GNSS-independent localization and reliable real-time communication across the entire depot area
- More economical operations through increased automation and optimized vehicle control
- Compensating for workforce shortages with semi-autonomous workflows
- Enabling MRK to use and market modern 5G-based industrial applications
- Reduction of labor and inspection costs thanks to automated processes
- Ensuring efficient and long-term maintenance of photovoltaic systems for continuous energy generation
- Early detection of safety-related problems to minimize risks and increase safety
- Basis for the realization of further use cases in our own 5G network for building management, security management such as site surveillance and exhibitor supply.
