The joint Private 5G project by COCUS and Salzgitter Digital Solutions was honored with a TeckNexus Private Network Leadership Award 2026. The award recognized the successful implementation of a scalable 5G infrastructure for industrial applications at Salzgitter Group locations.
Why was the Private 5G project recognized?
The starting point for the joint project was a proof of concept at the Ilsenburg site. There, a private 5G campus network was set up to ensure reliable wireless communication even under demanding industrial conditions.
Following its successful implementation, the approach was further developed and rolled out to the Peine site. Rather than an isolated solution for a single use case, this resulted in an infrastructure that supports various industrial applications and can be rolled out to other sites.
With this award, TeckNexus recognizes this approach and the successful implementation of Private 5G in an industrial setting.
What added value does Private 5G offer to industry?
Production sites place high demands on the availability, security, and performance of communication systems. Private 5G networks provide a dedicated mobile communications infrastructure that enables machines, mobile devices, and digital applications within a plant to be reliably connected to one another.
In the joint project between COCUS and Salzgitter Digital Solutions, the 5G infrastructure thus serves not only as the foundation for individual applications. It also provides the technological foundation for integrating additional use cases and gradually expanding the network to include additional areas and locations.
What does this award mean for COCUS?
The TeckNexus Award validates the joint approach taken by COCUS and Salzgitter Digital Solutions to design private 5G networks to be scalable from the outset.
The focus is not on building a single 5G network, but rather on an infrastructure that can evolve and be adapted to meet various requirements in industrial production.
The award thus also highlights the potential of Private 5G as a technological foundation for the continued digitization of industrial sites.
