MRO Europe 2024: Digitalisation in the Aviation Industry

MRO Europe 2024, one of the leading events in the aviation industry, took place in Barcelona from 22 to 24 October. Over 10,000 participants, including airlines, MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) service providers, suppliers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), came together to discuss the latest developments in the aviation industry. COCUS and Panasonic were on site as partners to present their solutions for the aviation industry.

Key Topics of MRO Europe 2024

A key theme at MRO Europe 2024 was the increasing complexity and diversity of the challenges facing the aviation industry worldwide. The main topics included:

Connectivity and Digitalisation in Focus

The focus is on the requirements for digitalisation and the optimisation of maintenance processes. Companies are looking for ways to improve their processes using technologies such as AI and machine learning. The ability to process large amounts of data in real time and react quickly to technical problems plays a crucial role in this.

Private 5G networks offer a solution that addresses many of the challenges in aviation. One advantage is the seamless integration of IoT (Internet of Things) solutions, which are becoming increasingly important in aviation. In addition, 5G networks enable low latency times and fast and stable data transmission.

Solutions for Aviation - Private 5G Networks & TOUGHBOOK

On site, COCUS demonstrated how private 5G networks can optimise various use cases in aviation. Especially in airport environments, where a stable and fast network infrastructure is required, 5G networks can help to make maintenance and communication processes more efficient. A reliable connectivity solution is essential for real-time communication between aircraft and ground staff. In addition, real-time data analyses supported by 5G connectivity make it possible to identify critical maintenance work at an early stage and avoid potential failures.

Panasonic presented its portfolio of TOUGHBOOK devices, which are specially designed for use in the aviation industry. They feature the latest Intel AI Boost Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI processing at the edge. This means that mobile teams are able to complete complex tasks efficiently and with high accuracy at the point of use. These devices are not only robust and reliable, but also ideal for demanding environments such as airports or maintenance hangars.

Strong Partnership with Panasonic

The collaboration between COCUS and Panasonic is characterised by the excellent complementarity of their respective core competencies. While Panasonic offers mobile, robust and future-proof hardware solutions with its TOUGHBOOK devices, COCUS provides the matching connectivity with private 5G networks. The combination of powerful hardware and future-oriented network technology forms a solid foundation for efficiently digitalising and automating complex processes.

Digital Future of the Aviation Industry

MRO Europe 2024 highlighted that the aviation industry is increasingly focussing on innovation and technological advancements to meet current and future challenges. With the use of smart technologies such as AI and the implementation of customised connectivity solutions, the aviation industry will make significant progress in the coming years.
