Smart digitalisation of manual load planning to determine the ideal container occupancy on trains
Haeger & Schmidt offers a comprehensive range of logistics services for numerous companies in Europe at twelve of its own locations, both by rail and by water. In the joint project with COCUS, the automated and dynamic calculation of loading strategies and capacity utilisation for goods trains is being optimised. In addition to the recognised potential for reducing personnel expenses and storage costs, the project focuses on more efficient planning in import and export for greater planning reliability and improved quality.
Goals
- Automated and dynamic calculation of loading strategies & capacity utilisation for goods trains based on e.g. container sizes, weight, departure and destination locations
- Development of a dynamic solution based on an intelligent learning algorithm for analysing and evaluating data and information
- Fast and automated adjustment of plans and capacity utilisation
- Automation of 80% of previously manual planning tasks
- Operational savings in import and export of around 200,000 euros
- Optimised personnel deployment thanks to around 2,000 fewer working hours per year
- Reduction in warehouse costs thanks to optimised time management & minimisation of detours
